ARMORED OR SHEATHED THERMOCOUPLES

Armored thermocuoples are an advanced type that incorporate a continuous outer protective sheath and a magnesium oxide (O.MG2) compressed mineral insulation that makes them more durable due to the absence of oxygene (O2) which at high temperatures can oxidize circuit wires.

Compact and continuous thermowells can be made of copper (C), stainless steel 304 L (I), stainless steel 316 (IMO), refractory (R), inconel (INC), incoloy (Y) depending on temperature or atmosphere (oxidant, reductor, etc)


Thus, the thermocouple will be named as follows:

1. outer diameter in milimeters

2. circuit wire type (T, J, K)

3. protection type (C, I, IMO, INC, Y)


For example: 6 JI

this name corresponds to a thermocouple with an outer diameter OF 6 m/m., AISI 304 L stainless steel protection, constantan steel wires.

 

For sealing cold ends type "F" packing glands or araldit cloggings are used. grounded or ungrounded welded chips are used for sealing junctions.

Moisture penetration must be avoided because the insulator is highly hygroscopic
